Staying Happy During Pregnancy

Monday, December 15, 2014

It's surprisingly easy to get all depressed and emotional during pregnancy. Battling morning sickness, water retention everywhere, massive weight gain, body aches, loneliness are just some of the things pregnant mummies have to go through. It's so easy to just focus on the negative and spiral out of control, so I decided to make a conscientious effort to stay happy for the last stretch of my pregnancy! Here are some positive little reminders for all you emo pregnant mamas, and hopefully it'll help make your journey through pregnancy a happier one <3

Notice all the extra love and care you're receiving from your spouse
9 months is a pretty long time and sometimes we tend to forget and take our poor husbands for granted; expecting them to just go get us whatever we feel like eating at that moment, massaging our aching backs and generally do stuff for us. But they really don't have to, this is love. So be happy about it whenever he goes out of his way to do something sweet for you!

Spend time with your baby bump
Some of my happiest moments during pregnancy is spent talking and playing music for my baby bump! I feel especially happy when baby responds to what I say or play for her by kicking or moving inside me :) Sometimes when I'm down and she starts kicking, I would feel better as well, it's like her telling me that I'm not going through this pregnancy alone.

Avoid social media on bad days
I'm not sure if this affects you as well, but sometimes when I'm feeling down and I go on instagram/facebook and start seeing these wonderful travel pictures or non-pregnant girls wearing pretty clothes I'd feel sadder and I'd start wishing I could go on a holiday or something. Then the more I'd think about it, the worse I'd feel. So my solution for this is to just avoid social media altogether on bad days!

Join a motherhood/baby forum
Yep, I recently joined singaporemotherhood.com hahaha, and it's so insightful?! Personally, I don't have many friends who are married, and even lesser have babies. So motherhood forums are sooo helpful, and it's a very supportive community where you can talk to other moms about problems you're facing etc. (:

Go online shopping
There are so many options and baby/motherhood stores available online these days, and it's so much fun to shop for your little one! Online shopping pretty much always makes my day hahaha. I love going through pages and pages of pretty baby clothing, adorable blankets and gorgeous tiny shoes. And I especially love the excitement of waking up to packages and tearing them apart, feels like Christmas everytime ♥︎

I think it's important to try your best to stay happy during pregnancy, you don't want to look back and only remember all the negativity. When you're happy at home, those around you who are supporting you throughout this difficult phase will feel happier too! To all pregnant mamas who are reading this, congratulations and may you have a blessed pregnancy :)

  5. I share your joy, Audrey. Truthfully, being pregnant is changing me as a person. Each day is part of this amazing journey that has completely shifted the focus of my life and made me reevaluate my personal and professional goals. Even though feeling fat lasts nine months but the joy of becoming a mom lasts forever. Ya, a baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years, and in your heart until the day you die.

Welcome to this wonderful journey of motherhood :-)

  7. One way to stay happy is: every day stop before something beautiful long enough to say,
    "Isn’t that b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!"
