Turkey - Cappadocia Travel Guide

Cappadocia Travel Guide
Writing this makes me miss this beautiful place already.. wish I could have spent a longer time there! Cappadocia is a historical region in Turkey that's filled with unusual rock formations and rich in history. It's a magical place made up of small towns - the most famous ones being Nevsehir, Goreme, Uchisar and Urgup.

The main town where all the restaurants and stores are located at is Goreme. For this trip, however, we stayed at Museum Hotel which is located in Uchisar - just a short drive away from Goreme. It's a beautiful cave hotel located on one of the highest points so everyday you wake up to a stunning view!

Things to do
Some of the popular things to do when visiting this region

Goreme Open Air Museum
This place is actually an ancient bible school! Centuries ago, people managed to built homes and churches out of these caves, so so incredible. You can still see remnants of paintings of Christ and other biblical stories on the walls of these caves. It was such an eye-opening experience for me!

“one of the world’s most striking and largest cave-dwelling complexes.” - Unesco

Was a little disappointed we weren't allowed to take pictures inside the caves.. would really love share it with you guys! This place is definitely a must-visit if you ever go to Goreme :)

Go on a Hot Air Balloon ride
This was the whole reason why I wanted to visit Cappadocia in the first place. Unfortunately it was snowing too heavily the whole time I was there so I didn't get to tick this of my bucket list. Hopefully I'll have a chance to do this in the future!

Stay in a Cave Hotel
There are lots of cave hotels in the region, in fact I think most of the hotels there are cave hotels hehe. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience!

Horseback Riding
Cappadocia is actually known as the land of beautiful horses and there's no better way to see the region than on horseback! There are lots of horseback riding options available including sunrise or sunset rides.

Look at that view!

So thankful our guide was willing to take us on a ride even though it was snowing and super cold. Throughout the ride we only saw one other group of people on horseback lol, but 100% no regrets going for this!

See the Fairy Chimneys
Striking rock formations that are a result of a geological process that began millions of years ago. Till this day it is still ever changing. To be honest, seeing it in pictures really doesn't do it justice, you have to go there to experience it!

Learn How a Turkish Carpet is Made
We managed to visit a carpet making school where they gave us a tour of how Turkish carpets are made and how different it is from Persian carpets. It was interesting to learn more about this ancient art and watch some of the ladies demonstrate how they weave carpets.

Super intricate work!

Ride an ATV
ATV rides are another great way to tour the region! We didn't go on this as well because we had limited time there and had to choose between this and horseback riding. It definitely looks fun though!

Having the opportunity to visit this beautiful place has been the highlight of my year so far!
I've included the links of the tour guides that we engaged below, hope this has been useful for you :)
